Pusat Penataran Ilmu Dan Bahasa, UMS

Dr. Yusten is a lecturer in the Nation-State Aspiration at the Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. His expertise lies in border and security studies as well as political identity, with a particular focus on the Malaysia–Indonesia international border. His research delves into the complex dynamics of borderlands, examining socio-political challenges faced by local communities, the impacts of security policies, and the role of cosmopolitanism in shaping cross-border interactions. Dr. Yusten’s work emphasises how cosmopolitan values—such as global citizenship, shared principles, and interconnectedness—intersect with security frameworks and the human security concerns of borderland populations. By exploring the relationship between territorial governance, international policy frameworks, and the lived experiences of border communities, his research offers critical insights into the effectiveness and socio-cultural consequences of current security strategies. His dedication to these issues, including the contribution of cosmopolitan ideals in fostering cross-cultural understanding, makes a significant impact on discussions surrounding security and identity in border regions.
