Fakulti Pertanian Lestari, UMS

My name is Borhan bin Abdul Haya @ Yahya. I was born on 11 January 1986 in Silabukan, Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia. I was raised and cared for by my mother, Atimah binti Tee, together with my siblings, Sabuddin, Anuar, and Seriwati.
I received my primary education at S.K. St. Stephen, Lahad Datu. I then continued my secondary education at SMK Silabukan from Form 1 to Form 3, before completing my upper secondary and pre-university studies (Form 4 to Form 6) at SMK Agaseh.
After completing my secondary education, I pursued a Diploma in Farm Management at Universiti Teknologi MARA Kota Kinabalu Campus and graduated in 2010. I then continued my studies at the same university, obtaining a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Plantation Technology and Management from UiTM Shah Alam in 2012 with a CGPA of 3.55.
My strong interest in plant science motivated me to further my studies in Master of Science (Crop Physiology) at UiTM Shah Alam, which I completed in 2016. In February 2019, I began my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Agronomy at Universiti Putra Malaysia and successfully completed the program in 2025.
I began my academic career as a DS45 Lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah on 17 August 2016, serving at the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, Sandakan Campus. In my academic role, I teach several plant science-related courses, including Plant Nutrition, Plant Physiology, Root and Tuber Crops, and Plantation Crops, and I am actively involved in supervising undergraduate final-year students.
In addition to teaching and research, I am also actively involved in university administration. Among my roles is serving as the Principal of Lestari Sandakan Residential College at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, as well as participating in various academic activities and conferences at both national and international levels.
Throughout my academic career, I have contributed to journal publications, conference presentations, and research in agronomy, particularly in the areas of plant physiology, plant nutrition, and root and tuber crops. These efforts reflect my commitment to advancing knowledge and promoting sustainable agriculture in Malaysia.
