Profesor Madya Ir. Dr. Abu Zahrim Bin Yaser

Abu Zahrim Yaser is an Associate Professor in the Chemical Engineering Programme at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), where he also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. He is the founder of the Kundasang Compost Living Lab and obtained his PhD from Swansea University, UK. Dr. Zahrim’s research primarily focuses on waste processing technology, and he has been leading multiple projects since 2006. To date, he has published 20 books, 13 of which are indexed by Scopus, along with over 130 research publications. He has served as a lead guest editor for three special issues in high-impact journals. Dr. Zahrim is an Editorial Board Member of the Scopus-indexed journal; Jurnal Kejuruteraan. His creative publication, Kompos, featured in the Festival of Ideas (Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia), has garnered more than 3,000 views, and he holds one patent and five copyrights related to environmental protection systems. He has delivered keynote, plenary, and invited talks on waste management and academic publishing, while also chairing numerous international and national conferences. As an active reviewer for several high-impact journals, Dr. Zahrim has reviewed over 300 articles (Publons). His innovations in waste management have been adopted by various communities in Sabah, Malaysia, including Nabawan, Tongod, Kundasang and Kota Belud. He has also held appointments as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Hull, United Kingdom, and Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. Dr. Zahrim is a Professional Engineer (Ir.) registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. Dr. Zahrim is a recipient of the National Book Award (2023). His Scopus citations stand at 2,002, with an h-index of 23.
