Ts. Dr. Soo Chen Lin is a highly accomplished senior lecturer at the Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ITBC) at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia. She holds a Ph.D. in Aquatic Science from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, where she researched the water quality and carrying capacity of tropical tidal estuaries affected by domestic and aquaculture activities. Throughout her career, Ts. Dr. Soo Chen Lin has gained extensive experience in administration, management, research, teaching, and supervision. She has held various positions, such as Deputy Director (Academic & International), Postgraduate Program (Research) Coordinator, Deputy Coordinator of Academic Program Quality, Acting Head of Program, and Champion of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) for the Undergraduate Conservation Biology Program. Ts. Dr. Soo Chen Lin's research interests center around aquatic pollution and ecology, which is reflected in her securing national and university grants to work on microplastic pollution in Sabah waters, freshwater fish assemblages in Kinabalu Park, and DNA barcoding of fish. She has also served as a visiting researcher at the University of the Ryukyus in Japan, where she conducted innovative research on environmental DNA for fish biodiversity surveys in protected forest streams. As an educator, she has taught a range of courses at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels, including research methodology, ecology, aquatic ecology, meiobenthology, and selected topics in conservation biology. Ts. Dr. Soo Chen Lin's passion for mentoring is reflected in her supervision of numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects. In addition to her academic pursuits, Ts. Dr. Soo Chen Lin has been involved in consultancy projects such as the ‘Environmental Sensitivity Index Re-Mapping Exercise for Sabah’ and the ‘Macrobenthos Study for Labuan Crude Oil Terminal’. Her professional achievements include serving as an academic editor for the journal Modelling and Simulation in Engineering, being recognized as a Professional Technologist by the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), and serving as an expert panel member for the Sabah Biodiversity Center (SaBC).
