Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Pak Yan Moh is a nanomaterials and water chemistry expert who currently heading the Water Research Unit (WRU) in the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources (FSNR), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Besides, his is also the Manager cum Signatory of the Accredited UMS-Water Analysis Laboratory, FSNR. Dr. Moh obtained his BSc. degree (1999) and MSc. degree (2002) from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He then joined UMS in 2003 as lecturer under the Industrial Chemistry Programme. In 2008 he joined Centre for Nanoporous Materials led by Prof. Michael W. Anderson in the University of Manchester (UoM), UK, where he devoted most of his works on crystal growth of metal-organic frameworks through the state-of-the-art atomic force microscopy. He obtained his PhD. degree from the University of Manchester, UK in 2012. He then re-joined Universiti Malaysia Sabah as senior lecturer. His research is mostly focussing on the development of MOF-based materials for heterogenous catalysis, and environmental remediation. In the same year, Dr. Moh was appointed as the Head of Industrial Chemistry Programme, FSNR until his next appointment as the Head of WRU in 2014. Among the greatest contributions along his service include: (1) Primary investigator of Water Quality around Ranau and Kundasang after the earthquake event in 2015; (2) Obtained Accreditation status for the UMS-Water Analysis Laboratory in 2017, (3) Consultant for WWF regarding the river water quality around Inanam, Kota Kinabalu, 2019; (4) Volunteer in UMS's hand sanitizer preparation during the Covid-19 pandemic; (5) Consultant for UABG Sdn. Bhd. in wastewater treatment at Tuaran Oxidation Pond, 2020-2021; and (6) Industrial consultant of fire-retarding material, "PhosphaTania" (Trade Secret - TS20220009) in collaboration with industrial counterpart, Flamoff Industries Sdn. Bhd., 2023. Up until now, Dr. Moh has published over 40 peer-reviewed research papers mostly in the Scopus/WoS indexed journals; and 5 books and chapters in books. Throughout his career, he has established a viable research teams throughout the universities in the country as well as the oversea universities such as the University of Manchester, UK, Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan, and SiChuan University of Science and Engineering, China. The year 2023 has marked 20 years of his service with UMS. His future career plan includes skills and knowledge transfer to local community, competency training, industrial engagement, social engagement, and global research networking.
