Professor Madya Dr. Chen Cheng Ann

Institut Marin Borneo, UMS

Established as a prolific author and researcher, Chen Cheng Ann has compiled an exhaustive bibliography during the previous decade. More than thirty of his publications have been published or co-authored in prestigious, peer-reviewed journals that are included in the indexes of reputable databases including Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Prominent among these are a number of first-authored articles that have been published in esteemed academic journals, including Journal of Chemistry, Marine Biology Research, and Zootaxa. Marine biodiversity is the principal area of interest for him, encompassing meiobenthos communities, free-living marine nematodes, sergestid shrimps, seahorses, spiny lobsters, and wood borers. Several novel nematode species have been described by him as a result of his seminal taxonomic research conducted in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Taiwan. His publications detail baseline surveys of marine invertebrates, water quality assessments, and environmental monitoring studies, in addition to the descriptions of new taxa.

Dr. Chen has contributed to book chapters, conference proceedings, and general publications in addition to peer-reviewed articles. His research was funded by a multitude of competitive grants from a variety of university and government sources, in addition to his extensive participation in national and international conference presentations. Chen has completed a number of master's and doctoral theses under his supervision and is presently overseeing a greater number of active research projects. He has assessed manuscripts and proposals and participated in the organization of numerous academic conferences. In addition, Chen effectively engages in public outreach and student mentoring via participation in professional associations and citizen science initiatives. In general, his achievements exemplify a robust and enduring track record of spearheading scientific research, delivering exemplary instruction, and doing good for both scholarly and non-scholarly communities.
