Dr. Wee Ching Ching graduated with a PhD in 2023 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Her expertise lies in plant biotechnology, with a focus on genetic improvement in fruit. During her studies, she successfully assembled the complete plastome and mitogenome of mangosteen. Additionally, she generated the mangosteen reference transcriptome by integrating transcriptome data from 56 public datasets. This reference transcriptome was used to construct the mangosteen eFP browser, which is now accessible on the website (https://bar.utoronto.ca/efp_mangosteen/cgi-bin/efpWeb.cgi). The tool allows the public to view gene expression at different parts of mangosteen under different conditions.Furthermore, hub genes related to phenolic compounds biosynthesis were identified using co-expression network analysis. Throughout her PhD, she published four indexed Q1 journal articles. Her current research interests include the use of molecular markers and genetic engineering techniques to enhance traits such as fruit quality, yield, and disease resistance in tropical fruits.
