Kueh Boon Hee (or fondly known as Kelvin) is currently a Lecturer/Researcher (also the Principal Investigator for the BORNEENSIS Living Lab) at the Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation, and the first and former Deputy Director of the EcoCampus Management Centre, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, UMS (2017-2020).
He has been a field batrachologist (studying amphibians: frogs & toads), conservation biologist and sustainable development advocate for the last 20 years, and he has a fervent passion for biodiversity conservation, nature-based Sustainable and Responsible Tourism, and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
He has assisted UMS in achieving international standing in campus sustainability through the ‘UI GreenMetric World University Ranking’ (2019–58th; 2018–71st; 2017–37th), attaining national recognition for students’ contribution in campus sustainability denoted by the WWF-Malaysia FEE EcoCampus Silver Award 2020 – the first for any university in Malaysia, and winning the Sabah Public Sector Innovation Award (AiSAS) 2021/2022 Higher Education Category for ITBC, UMS.
He is the co-author for two books, namely "Anurans of Taman Negara Johor Endau-Rompin" (2016), and "MUSEBASE: Collection Data Management System For Comprehensive And Sustainable Conservation Of Biodiversity And Ecosystems" (2006), as well as a co-editor for "A Handbook on Sustainable and Resilient Tourism beyond frontiers: The Malaysian Borneo Essence" (2023).
He has successfully graduated 2 MSc candidates who worked on wildlife tourism and community-based tourism for nature conservation, and 3 MSc candidates who worked on anuran (frog & toad) ecology, including a candidate from Japan. He is currently co-supervising a graduating MSc and MEd candidate working on single-use plastic waste management and mathematics achievement among pre-schoolers using EcoCampus surroundings respectively.
Encik Kueh Boon Hee holds Ijazah Sarjana Sains (Biologi Pemuliharaan) from Universiti Malaysia Sabah , among other qualifications, and has established themselves as a respected expert in their field.
