Dr. Eric is currently a senior lecturer at the Biotechnology Research Institute, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the same university in 2018 and received the Postgraduate Aspiration Award for his Ph.D. studies. His research interests include molecular epidemiology and diagnostic studies on various non-communicable diseases (e.g., cancer, stroke, obesity, etc.) and infectious diseases (e.g., malaria, COVID-19, herpesviruses, etc.). He also has extensive experience in molecular genetics, genetic engineering, and meta-analysis. Dr. Eric has published more than 35 scientific papers indexed in the WoS/Scopus database. He has presented his research data at over 30 international and national conferences and has won several awards, including the Best Poster Award, Best Oral Presentation Award, Poster Exhibition Award, and Young Investigator Award. He is a member of the Asia Pathogen Genomics Initiative (Asia PGI) consortium. Additionally, he is an active member of several international and national societies and currently serves as an Associate Editor for Human Gene (Elsevier). At the same time, he acts as a consultant and collaborator for several international research projects and is an active reviewer for many indexed journals.
Dr. Eric Chong Tzyy Jiann holds Doktor Falsafah (Bioteknologi) from Universiti Malaysia Sabah , among other qualifications, and has established themselves as a respected expert in their field.
