Fakulti Pertanian Lestari, UMS

Ts. Dr. Mohd. Rakib Bin Mohd. Rashid was born on 4th December 1985 in Sabah, Malaysia. He is a Senior Lecturer (DS13) at the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, and has served for 8 years, since he was first appointed in May 2016. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in the field of Plant Pathology from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2015, and a Bachelor's degree in Bioindustrial Science (Hons.) from the same university in 2009. He gained a lot of experience and significantly contributed to the educational program, faculty, and university over the past 8 years. He contributed to the teaching and learning activities, supervision of postgraduate and undergraduate students, publication in high-indexed journals, attendance at national and international conferences, including as an invited speaker, and served the university and communities, including as the Head of the Sustainable Palm Oil Research Unit, the Head of Programme (Crop Production), and the Deputy Dean (Academic and Student Affairs). His expertise is in plant pathology, and mycology. The area of specialization is related to fungal diseases; therefore, it developed his research focus and interest in crop diseases, especially Ganoderma disease in oil palm, applied microbiology (the application of microbes for agriculture), and mushroom technology. Currently, he is focusing on research related to the management of Ganoderma boninense in oil palm, and utilization of agricultural wastes, especially oil palm and fungi, for the production of mushrooms, animal feeds, and compost. Additionally, he is a Professional Technologist (P.Tech.) in the field of Agro-based Technology, awarded by the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT). In terms of publication, he achieved Scopus h-index of 7, which is in the top 5 position at the faculty, and I published 4 Scopus indexed journal in the year 2024. He published 37 publications, which included 20 journal articles, 2 books, and 15 conference proceedings/papers and other publications. He is one of the key person in the development of a new academic programme at the faculty, Bachelor of Agricultural Applied Science with Honours (Smart Precision Farming). He is actively involved in many community projects or programs, especially knowledge transfer on mushroom production technology. These achievements are above average among his colleagues or faculty members.
