Ts. Dr. Syahriel Bin Abdullah is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ITBC), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and a certified Professional Technologist (P. Tech.) (MBOT, Jul 2022). Holding a Ph.D. in Biotechnology (UMS, 2018), his doctoral research focused on isolating three potent antibacterial compounds from Ganoderma boninense. Dr. Syahriel specializes in Biochemistry and Natural Products Isolation and Computational Molecular Biology. His expertise spans advanced separation techniques (HPLC, NMR, MS), microbiological screening against drug-resistant pathogens like ESKAPE and MRSA, and in silico analysis (QSAR, toxicological screening, protein-ligand interaction using Autodock Vina, SwissADME). His scholarly impact is marked by a Scopus H-Index of 9 and 185 citations, and he serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Transaction on Science and Technology (since Dec 2016).
Ts Dr. Syahriel maintains highly relevant industry and international academic roles, accelerating R&D progress and commercialization. His latest professional appointments include serving as the Scientific Advisor for Agri-Biotech Marketing Sdn. Bhd. (since Apr 2025) and the Expedition Scientific Advisor for Mawali Adventure Tours Sdn. Bhd. (since Jan 2025), where he integrates scientific research with marine exploration as a Certified PADI Advanced Diver. His innovative work is protected by pending patents, including one for a formulation derived from G. boninense extract for antibacterial cream (2022) and another for Trichoderma and Mycorrhizae for Ganoderma control (2025).
His global engagement is particularly strong in 2025, where he holds several key invited roles:
1. Visiting Lecturer at Eulji University, South Korea (Mar 2025), where he is also an Invited Keynote Speaker.
2. Visiting Researcher at Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), Indonesia (Feb 2025), where he is an Invited Speaker for a workshop on “MetaboAnalyst”.
3. Invited Keynote Speaker at Fatmawati Sukarno State Islamic University of Bengkulu, Indonesia (Nov 2025).
He is also an active supervisor for 2 PhD, 4 M.Sc., and 6 undergraduate students and is a member of the BRAIN (Borneo Research on Algesia, Inflammation & Neurodegeneration) research group.
