Summary

Ts. Dr. Januarius Gobilik is a senior lecturer in agriculture (agronomy) at the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture (FSA), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). He obtained his PhD from Massey University, New Zealand, in multi- and cross-disciplinary agronomy. He is a Professional Technologist (Agro-based Technology) registered with the Malaysia Board of Technologists.

He has 22 years of scientific experience. His expertise encompasses topics on verticulture (vertical farming), soilless and urban agriculture, turfgrass science and agrostology including paddy, tropical viticulture and fig culture, composting and compost recycling, feed budgeting and grazing pasture management, and agricultural plant sciences and systematics. He worked as a Forest Research Officer with the Sabah Forestry Department for seven years. He published 15 scientific documents during his time in the department. In 2009, he was invited to join UMS to be an academician. He is tasked to teach courses on turfgrass management, pasture and fodder production, scientific writing and communication, plant systematics, soilless culture, landscape horticulture, urban horticulture, and garden design and management.

Dr. Gobilik's role as an academician at UMS has not been limited to teaching. He has also taken on various administrative tasks, showcasing his leadership skills and ability to manage diverse responsibilities. His roles have included being the Director of Ecofarm Management Center UMS, Head of AFEEDRI Living Laboratory, Deputy Head of Go Glocal Bawing Living Laboratory, Director of SAGRITECH Park Task Force UMS, Deputy Dean (Farm Management and Industrial Relations), Acting Deputy Dean (Academic, Student Affairs & Alumni), and FSA’s Business Development Manager.

He has obtained 25 research projects worth RM1,665,578 in grants. He has also conducted 15 consultation projects involving the Food Valley master plan, forest EIA, landscaping, hydroponics, and animal feed. He has supervised and graduated three PhD, eight MSc, and fifty BSc students. He has written 78 journal articles, of which 17 are Scopus articles. He has also co-authored one book and three chapters in three books. He also reviewed articles for eight journal publishers and one proceeding. He has presented nine international conference papers, chaired three conference sessions, and became an invited speaker for three conferences. He was a Guest Editor for a special issue in the Forestry (MDPI). He has produced several innovations, including HafizFeed, an animal feed formulation (trade secret) commercialised for Hafiz Farm Sdn. Bhd.

Dr. Gobilik's contributions to agriculture have been recognised and celebrated. UMS has awarded him the Excellent Service (2) and Honorable Service Awards (3), the Researcher Award (5), and the Most Outstanding Royalty Contributor Award (1). His innovative work has also been acknowledged with 25 Innovation Awards, including five gold medals at international levels.

Profesor Madya Ts. Dr. Januarius Gobilik holds Ijazah Doktor Falsafah from Massey University, New Zealand , among other qualifications, and has established themselves as a respected expert in their field.
