Fakulti Perhutanan Tropika, UMS
Liew Kang Chiang received his Doctor of Philosophy in Wood Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia in year 2002. He also received his Master of Science (Wood Utilization) and Bachelor of Forestry Science majoring Wood Industry from Universiti Putra Malaysia (year 1998) and Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (year 1996), respectively.
Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah's Faculty of Tropical Forestry. His areas of specialization include lignocellulosic-based usage, conventional and hybrid composites, and pulp and paper. His on-going research is now evaluating the the effect of densification on fire behaviour, mechanical, physical, and biological capabilities of cross-laminated timber, an engineered wood product made from fast-growing plantation tree species.
He has also participated in the knowledge and expertise transfer process with the wood-related industries.
To date, he has published more than 90 works, consisting of journal papers, proceedings, chapter in books and books.
In supervision, he has 13 graduated postgraduates, 1 PhD and 12 MSc. On-going postgraduate supervisions include 2 PhD and 3 MSc. He also has supervised more than 50 undergraduates.
