Mohamad Syahrul Nizam Ibrahim is specialised in biodiversity and conservation of natural resources. He has published articles on Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak, Malaysia. Currently, he is working on Kinabalu Park which received both status of UNESCO World Heritage Site and Global Geopark. His research areas and interests are environmental sociology, anthropology, biodiversity, and tourism. He is a member of the Asian Association of Environmental Economics, Southeast Asia Research Academy, Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia (ENSEARCH), and Sarawak Research Society. He has received several prestigious awards, which include one of the Top 15 Finalists for the Young Scientist Network-Academy of Science Malaysia Chrysalis Award 2022, Best Poster Award for the International Conference of Social Sciences and Management (iRandau 2021), Recipient of the Graduate Excellence and Professional (GrEP) Programme of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat for PhD Year 2019-2022; Recipient of the UPM Graduate Research Fellowship for PhD Year 2021-2022; and Received the UPM Financial Aid to Attend International Presentation.
He has also been involved in research projects related to tourism and forestry with Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Sarawak Tourism Board. He also served as a resident fellow of Sri Rajang College, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) for two years. He is also involved as a conference secretariat committee member for the 1st Postgraduate Seminar on Agriculture and Forestry 2021. He has good experience with undergraduate students in various organized programs in social services, education, and research. He was a former data analyst in the Faculty of Environmental Studies, UPM (current: Faculty of Forestry and Environment) and managed to assist with the data analysis for a research project on a survey of sustainable consumption, production, and practices among Japanese. He is also a graduate research fellow in the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Forestry, UPMKB. He has been a mentor for master’s degree and undergraduate students in terms of research supervision during his services in both faculties. During his studies, he was sponsored by the UPM Graduate Research Fellowship scheme and gained experience in lecturing for FHM4202: Economic Valuation for Forest Resources and Biodiversity and FHS4959: Bachelor Dissertation courses.
Dr. Mohamad Syahrul Nizam Bin Ibrahim holds Doktor Falsafah (Ph.D) from Universiti Putra Malaysia , among other qualifications, and has established themselves as a respected expert in their field.
