Dr. Collin G. Joseph is a distinguished Charted Chemist and Associate Professor in the Industrial Chemistry Program at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Since joining UMS in 2003, he has cultivated a career defined by scientific innovation, academic excellence, and unwavering service to both the scientific community and society at large.
He earned his PhD from the University of Nottingham, UK, in 2011, where his research laid the foundation for what would become his specialized focus areas: Adsorbent Technology, Sonophotochemistry, and Ozone Chemistry. In 2014, Dr. Joseph established the Sonophotochemistry Research Group, where he continues to lead pioneering studies that push the boundaries of photochemical and ultrasonic chemical systems.
From 2020 to 2023, he served with distinction as Head of the Industrial Chemistry Programme at the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources, UMS. His dynamic leadership and dedication to academic development have significantly enhanced the program’s research capabilities and industry collaboration.
Among his numerous accolades, Dr. Joseph is the recipient of several Excellence and Service Awards, as well as Gold Medals in innovation and research competitions such as MTE, ITEX, and PEREKA. His scholarly contributions include a Google Scholar (9-92025) h-index of 22, with over 3,013 citations, marking his influence in the global scientific community.
His work has earned him editorial roles with major publications, including positions on the editorial board of the Malaysian Journal of Chemistry, Photocatalysis (Frontiers of Chemistry), and Catalysts. He is a sought-after reviewer for Tier 1 journals under publishing houses like Elsevier B.V., Springer, and Taylor & Francis, and frequently invited to present at international conferences as a keynote speaker, often with full sponsorship.
In 2024, he secured RM30,000 in consultancy funding for UMS through a partnership with a Sabah-based company—showcasing his ability to bridge academia and industry with tangible impact.
Dr. Joseph’s dedication to the field of chemistry was formally recognized in 2021 when he was awarded the Fellowship of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry, the institute’s highest honor. He is also a proud member of the American Chemical Society and the Majlis Profesor Negara, underscoring his contributions at both national and international levels.
Beyond his academic achievements, Dr. Joseph is committed to community engagement. He is a lifelong volunteer and committee member with MERCY Malaysia and UMS4WDVC, contributing to humanitarian and outreach programs aimed at improving lives across Sabah.
Dr. Collin G. Joseph embodies the spirit of scientific curiosity, leadership, and service. His journey stands as an inspiration to aspiring chemists and researchers, and a testament to the transformative power of science driven by purpose.
