Summary

Associate Professor Ts. Gs. Dr. Carolyn M. Payus, is an Associate Professor in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). She has been involved highly in research on Climate-Related Disasters, Atmospheric Science and Water Security, which includes as Research Fellows at the University of Tokyo in Disaster Management Centre and United Nations University-IAS & FLORES, Japan & Germany for Institute Advanced Study of Sustainability. She also represented the Japanese delegation under the Tokyo United Nations University (UNU) & UNEP for UN Climate Change Conference (COP). At the same time, she has published various research papers in journals, books, and won many innovation awards. She has established the guideline for State’s strategic and action plans for disaster management, including the earthquake policy framework and educational modules. Apart from that, she also known to have numerous International Research Grants and Collaborations including Asia Pacific, Royal Society London and Newton Fund. Her works has emphasized the need for academia to integrate with stakeholders, this includes the government agencies, industries, NGOs and communities so that their work will be relevant to the nation needs. She also has unpacked the women’s participation in disaster management by demonstrating as the key figure and proactive role in enhancing the community resilience and with many leaders from NADMA, KPM actively participating in effort to manage disasters of the country.

Profesor Madya Ts. Dr. Carolyn Melissa Payus holds Ijazah Doktor Falsafah (Sains Sekitaran) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia , among other qualifications, and has established themselves as a respected expert in their field.
