Dr. Fatimah Ahmedy is a Rehabilitation Physician and Associate Professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). She obtained her MBBS from Cardiff University (UK) in 2006 and her Master of Rehabilitation Medicine from Universiti Malaya in 2018. Her expertise spans spinal cord medicine, neurorehabilitation, community-based rehabilitation (CBR), and disability management, with a strong emphasis on translating rehabilitation into meaningful community impact.
Clinically, she has led the establishment of neuromodulation services at Hospital UMS, with growing expertise in non-invasive techniques using transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). These are integrated into personalised rehabilitation programmes to enhance neuroplasticity and improve functional outcomes in neurological conditions. She is also actively involved in clinical research, teaching, and training healthcare professionals in neuromodulation.
Dr. Fatimah plays a key national role in postgraduate medical education as Secretary of the Conjoint Board and Course Director for the Master of Rehabilitation Medicine Malaysia, and is leading the development of the Master of Rehabilitation Medicine programme at UMS. She has published almost 60 Scopus-indexed articles (H-index: 10; citations: 336), authored/edited 3 books and contributed 3 book chapters, with research funding of RM759,273.20 as Project Leader and RM1,555,166.50 as Project Member.
She is currently the Principal Investigator for the Sabah region under an international grant from UNICEF for the study “Cost of Raising Children with Disabilities in Malaysia.” Her contributions have been recognised through the Spinal Research International Grant (ISCOS 2022), UMS Young Researcher Award 2019, selection as Malaysia’s finalist for the UK Alumni Award 2021, and a travel grant for the LIFE Winter School on Health and Well-being (2026).
