Dr. Tan Choon Beng

Choon Beng Tan is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). He received his B.Comp.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from UMS in 2016, 2018, and 2025, respectively. From 2018 to 2025, he served as an IT Officer at the Data Management & Artificial Intelligence Centre (DARTIC), UMS, where his responsibilities encompassed enterprise data management, analytical dashboard development and maintenance, and institutional data analytics. This extensive practical experience in data infrastructure directly informs his current research on bridging theoretical machine learning models with operational analytics environments. His recent work focuses on malware classification using ensemble techniques, cloud data integrity schemes, and voice presentation attack detection. Currently, his research explores educational data mining, specifically predictive analytics for student attrition and closed-loop decision-support architectures. He regularly contributes to the academic community through peer-reviewed journal publications and editorial review work in computer science and educational technology.
