Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abd. Aziz bin Rekan is an academic at the Faculty of Education and Sport Studies, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. He received his early education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pekan Tuaran, Sabah, and completed his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Inanam (now SMKA Tun Ahmadshah). He then pursued the Foundation in Islamic Studies at the Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya (Nilam Puri Campus, Kelantan) in 2009. He continued with a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Education (specialisation in Islamic Studies) at Universiti Malaya, graduating with Honours (Distinction) in 2013 and receiving the Royal Education Award (Pingat Jaya Cemerlang) conferred by the Majlis Raja-Raja Malaysia. He later obtained his PhD in Islamic Education from Universiti Malaya in 2020.
He was appointed as a SLAB (Bumiputera Academic Training Scheme) Fellow at Universiti Malaya from 2015 to 2020. He subsequently served as a Senior Lecturer at the Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya from 2020 to 2025 before continuing his academic career at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. His research interests include Islamic Education (curriculum, pedagogy, innovation, and assessment); Integrated Education (Islamic Environmental Education, Education for Sustainable Development, Planetary Health, eco-psychospiritual education, and Islamic educational psychology); Educational Institutions (sustainable schools, green surau, eco-mosques, and eco-tahfiz); and Teacher Education (professional ethics, policy, instructional practices, and leadership).
Since 2020, Dr. Abd. Aziz has led and participated in numerous research projects. As a Project Leader, he has secured research grants amounting to RM226,170, with his overall involvement in funded projects exceeding RM650,000. He actively publishes in high-impact journals indexed in WoS and Scopus and serves as a reviewer and editorial board member of a Scopus-indexed journal. His works include book chapters with internationally recognised publishers such as Palgrave Macmillan and Springer, as well as policy papers, technical reports, and academic books. He has also produced 24 registered copyrighted works, including instructional modules, digital learning materials, and innovative teaching tools. His contributions support the advancement of Islamic education within the broader context of sustainability and interdisciplinary practice.
Profesor Madya Dr. Abd. Aziz Bin Rekan holds Ijazah Doktor Falsafah (Degree of Doctor of Philosophy) from Universiti Malaya , among other qualifications, and has established themselves as a respected expert in their field.
