Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Januarius Gobilik is an Assoc. Prof. in agriculture (agronomy) at the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture (FSA), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). He obtained his PhD in Multidisciplinary Agronomy from Massey University in New Zealand. He is a Professional Technologist (Agro-based Technology) registered with the Malaysian Board of Technologists. He has 22 years of experience in agriculture and forestry, having made numerous scientific contributions and performed administrative duties. Dr Gobilik's expertise is wide-ranging, covering topics such as verticulture, soilless agriculture, turfgrass science and agrostology, paddy cultivation, tropical viticulture, fig culture, composting and compost recycling, feed budgeting and pasture management, agricultural plant sciences and plant systematics. His professional journey included seven years as a Forest Research Officer with the Sabah Forestry Department, where he carried out five research projects and published 15 articles. In 2009, he was invited to join UMS as an academician, teaching ten courses related to his expertise. In UMS, Dr Gobilik obtained 28 research projects worth RM1,880,528. He also conducted 15 consultation projects, including the Sabah Food Valley Master Plan, Forest EIA, Landscaping, Hydroponics, and Animal Feed. He has industrial collaborations with 11 companies. He supervised three PhD, eight MSc, and 50 BSc graduates. He published 81 peer-reviewed journal articles, including 20 Scopus articles in respectable journals. He co-authored two books and three chapters in three books. He also reviewed articles for ten journal publishers. He presented nine papers at international conferences, chaired three conference sessions, and was appointed an invited speaker for three conferences. He was a Guest Editor for the Forestry (MDPI) special edition. He produced several innovations, including animal feed formulation (HafizFeed), which was commercialised for UMS through industrial collaboration with Hafiz Farm Sdn. Bhd. He received 25 Innovation Awards, including five Gold Medals at international levels. Dr. Gobilik's professional journey is marked by his academic and research achievements as well as his leadership and management roles. He has taken on various administrative responsibilities at UMS. These roles, which include Director of Ecofarm Management Center UMS, Head of AFEEDRI Living Laboratory, Deputy Head of Go Glocal Bawing Living Laboratory, Director of SAGRITECH Park Task Force UMS, Deputy Dean (Farm Management and Industrial Relations), Acting Deputy Dean (Academic, Student Affairs & Alumni), and FSA’s Business Development Manager, demonstrate his commitment to the field of agriculture and his ability to handle diverse responsibilities. Dr Gobilik's contribution was well recognised and celebrated. UMS awarded him the Excellent Service Award (2), Honourable Service Award (4), Researcher Award (5), and Most Outstanding Royalty Contributor Award (1).
