Prof. Ts. Dr. Chong Khim Phin

Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi, UMS

Chong Khim Phin is a Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in Biological, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences discipline He obtained his PhD in Plant Science from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. His research focuses on interactions between pathogenic and beneficial plant-associated microorganisms, particularly bacteria and fungi.

His research group conducts multidisciplinary studies integrating genetics, molecular biology and metabolomics approaches to advance scientific discovery. Through a deeper understanding of plant–microbe interactions, effective management strategies and treatments can be developed to improve plant health and disease control.

His current research interests include oil palm basal stem rot disease, banana blood disease, jackfruit bronzing disease, rice blast disease and the development of biocontrol agents derived from mycorrhizae, Trichoderma spp., actinomycetes and lactic acid bacteria. He is also actively involved in research on biochar, biofertilizers and organic fertilizers produced from oil palm biomass and agricultural wastes.
