I am a molecular evolutionary biologist and veterinary scientist who uses bats as the main study organism and am based in Malaysia Borneo. My current research interests include small mammal evolutionary biology (morphology & molecular), passive acoustic monitoring for biodiversity monitoring & population genetics of mangrove species. The 3 main projects now are the following: 1. Ecology and population genetics of the Large Flying Fox, Pteropus vampyrus, 2. Population genetics of mangrove species, Sonneratia caseolaris and Rhizophora apiculata, 3. Bioacoustic monitoring for Kinabalu Bird. I am also involved in projects that screen for primate parasites and potential zoonotic viruses from bats. My previous training includes the development of scFv antibodies using phage recombinant techniques and the development of an ELISA-based method to differentiate between the avian influenza virus-infected animals from the vaccinated ones, and soil metagenomics.
