RESEARCH INTEREST
My research interests includes ichthyology (fish studies), marine conservation and sustainable fisheries. I have more than 20 years of field and laboratory working experience in the area of marine biology and particularly in telost and elasmobranch (sharks and rays) biodiversity. In that period, I have also taught and supervised both undergraduate (BSc.) and postgraduate (MSc. and PhD.) marine biology students, including hosting numerous local and international interns. I have established a marine fish reference collection, and continue to help maintain and support the collection at the Borneo Marine Research Institute, UMS. In my present position as Head of the Endangered Marine Species Research Unit since its rebrancding in July 2015, I have established a 5-year goal (2016-2020) for the Research Unit, in which by 2020, the Unit will be self-sufficient in terms of its operation, to achieve its vision of ,To help ensure the survival of endangered marine species, particularly those that are found stranded or entangled in fishing nets along the coasts of Sabah,.
