Ts. Dr. Hjh Farashazillah Binti Yahya

Ts. Dr. Farashazillah Yahya is a Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer and Senior Lecturer with over 15 years of combined experience across industry and academia in Information Technology and Higher Education. She currently serves as the Director of the Data Management and Artificial Intelligence Centre at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), where she leads institution-wide initiatives in data governance, analytics and AI adoption. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. Prior to her academic career, she held key technical roles within the Malaysian Federal Government, including positions at the Ministry of Higher Education and the National Digital Department (formerly MAMPU), contributing to digital government services and data centre operations. Dr. Farashazillah is professionally certified in several industry-recognised credentials, including Oracle MySQL Database Administration, CompTIA Security+, ITIL Foundation, MDEC Data Science (Train-the-Trainer), and HRDF Accredited Trainer. An experienced research leader, she has managed multidisciplinary projects at both national and international levels, including contributions to the Malaysia Central Government Data Exchange (MyGDX) and the EU Horizon 2020 OPERANDO Consortium. She has served as a principal investigator and collaborator on multiple research grants exceeding RM1 million in total funding, including projects under the ERASMUS+ 2025 Open Science programme. In addition, she actively leads industry collaboration initiatives, generating over RM300,000 in project income. Her research interests include cybersecurity, data analytics, digital technologies and data governance, with more than 40 publications in these areas.
