Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Ismail Saad is a senior academic leader and nanoelectronics expert at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). He earned his Ph.D. in Micro and Nanoelectronics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where his pioneering research on nanoscale MOSFET modelling and ballistic transport was recognized with the Chancellor’s and Best Student Awards. He also holds degrees from Universiti Putra Malaysia and the University of Southampton, UK.
With a professional portfolio that spans over RM3 million in research grants, more than 100 Scopus-indexed publications, and multiple intellectual properties (2 patents, 1 trademark as lead inventor), Dr. Ismail’s work has significantly advanced the field of nanoelectronics and microprocessor systems, both nationally and internationally. He has led research collaborations across institutions and industries and served as principal investigator on various strategic grants.
Internationally, Dr. Ismail is a Senior Member of IEEE, and founding Chair of the IEEE Sabah Subsection, playing a key role in expanding Malaysia’s global engineering presence. His academic leadership includes serving as Dean, Deputy Dean of Academic & International, Head of Program, and Head of the Artificial Intelligence Research Unit, where he has fostered innovation, curriculum advancement, and global engagement.
Passionate about education, he has taught across a range of electronics and computer engineering disciplines, and champions the integration of advanced technologies into engineering education. His career reflects a sustained commitment to academic excellence, global collaboration, and impactful leadership in higher education.
