My current research interest involves the building of a bridge between the fields of Social, Cognitive and Neural Science and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The goal of my research is to apply social, cognitive and neurological principles to understanding how to best design, implement, and evaluate an autonomous embodied agent that interacts with its environment, with humans and with each other. My current efforts toward this goal revolve around 5 main themes Theme 1: Embodied Audition How to listen to multiple target sources in a noisy and reverberant environment and recognizes voices and sounds reliably from a distance Theme 2: Interactive Inference and Expression of Mental States How to engage with humans in a natural social exchanges by inferring the emotional state of the humans and expressing nonverbal behavioral cues that humans can understand. Theme 3: Learning and Reasoning How to learn from environment, humans and from each other Theme 4: Networks How to exchange information among autonomous agents. Theme 5: Sensory Information Processing How to mimic the structure and function of a biological nervous system.
