Dr Hasmadi Mamat is a Senior lecturer at the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in Malaysia. He embarked on his academic odyssey with a BSc. (Hons) in Food Science with Management, successfully completing it at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1998. This was followed by a remarkable achievement in 2002 when he earned his MSc. in Food Science from the same esteemed university. Dr. Hasmadi then pursued a PhD in Food Science, which he accomplished at the prestigious University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Hasmadi Mamat has been an integral part of the UMS community for over 23 years. His tenure commenced in 2000 as a Tutor and subsequently blossomed into a University Lecturer from August 2002 to September 2010. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in October 2010, further solidifying his academic journey. In May 2015, he was promoted to Associate Professor. Currently, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition. Prior to his current post, he held key positions at UMS, including Deputy Director (Academic Development) in the Centre for Academic Excellence and Development. He has also served as the Deputy Dean (Academic and Student Affairs) for six years, as the Head of Program for the Food Technology and Bioprocessing Program for four years, and as a Residential College Fellow for six years.

Dr. Hasmadi's academic journey spans over two decades, during which he has authored 80 articles in high-impact journals and presented his research at over 30 national and international conferences. Notably, he is deeply dedicated to research and innovation. He has led and collaborated on an impressive 30 research grants, securing a substantial total of RM 2.8 million in funding. His commitment to innovation has earned him numerous accolades, including gold, silver, and bronze medals in both local and international innovation competitions.

His knowledge and talents go beyond his initiative. He has served as an external program assessor for three prestigious universities: Taylor's University, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, and University Technology Sarawak. Furthermore, he routinely contributes his knowledge and insights as a journal reviewer for high-impact academic papers. In addition, he holds the distinguished position of Research Fellow at the UMS Food Safety and Quality Unit and the UMS Seaweed Research Unit. He is also recognized as a Professional Technologist by the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT). Since 2018, he has held the prestigious title of a certified trainer under the Halal Professional Board, Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM). His dedication to promoting Halal practices is underscored by his successful training of over 250 Halal Executives in Sabah. Moreover, he passionately delivers informative talks on Halal Competency Training and Halal Awareness, empowering and educating local industry employees and communities.
