Institut Marin Borneo, UMS

Professor Madya Dr. Julian Ransangan is a distinguished researcher at Institut Marin Borneo, University Malaysia Sabah. Their research focuses on My research interest revolves around aquaculture and fisheries, with a specific emphasis on the application of biotechnological innovations in the sustainable cultivation and management of mollusk resources. Mollusks, comprising a diverse array of species like clams, mussels, oysters, and snails, hold immense promise for addressing both human food security and ecological health. They serve as a vital source of nutritious seafood, easing the burden on overexploited fish stocks, while also acting as efficient filter feeders that improve water quality and combat environmental issues like eutrophication. The integration of biotechnology in my research encompasses advancements in breeding, genetic selection, disease control, and the exploration of novel applications for mollusk-derived compounds, such as pharmaceuticals and bioplastics. This multifaceted approach underscores the critical role of mollusks in meeting the challenges of the future, encompassing food security, ecological balance, and emerging technological opportunities. .

As a member of Institut Marin Borneo, they contribute significantly to the academic and research community at UMS through their expertise and dedication to advancing knowledge in their field.

Professor Madya Dr. Julian Ransangan holds Doctor of Philosophy Aquaculture (Fish Disease and Molecular Diagnostics) from Universiti Malaysia Sabah , among other qualifications, and has established themselves as a respected expert in their field.
