Professor Madya Dr. Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal

Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal works as an Associate Professor in the field of International Marketing and Dean of the Faculty of International Finance Labuan (FKAL), Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL). Dr Geoffrey completed his PhD in 2010 from the University of Otago, New Zealand. His current research direction evolved from his PhD dissertation with two main research themes: mobile device marketing and innovation diffusion.

Before that, he obtained a Master of Science Degree (Management) from Malaysia Graduate School of Management (MGSM) Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Bac Sc. (Honours) in Agribusiness and a Diploma in Agribusiness from the same university. He received his early education at SRJK St Francis Xavier, Keningau, SRJK Sacred Heart Kota Kinabalu and Penang Free School where he had the opportunity to represent the Penang Rugby team.

Dr Geoffrey has published extensively in various journals, book chapters and international conference proceedings. Dr Geoffrey is now a member of the Malaysian Marketing Institute (IMM) and the founder of the NGO Mitatabang and Koperasi Mitatabang. He is an assessor panel in the field of marketing for the National Accreditation Board (LAN 2006-2008) and an assessor panel for the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) (Marketing Field) (July 2014 - present).

On the administrative side, Dr Geoffrey is the former Deputy Director of UMSKAL (2002-2006; 2014 - 2019) and the former Deputy Dean for the Labuan School of International Business and Finance, UMSKAL (2003-2005). He was once appointed as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Labuan Corporation (2018-2020) and is currently the Chairman of the Labuan WP Licensing Board (2023-2025). He has also been with the Indigenous Economic Development Institute (Sabah) INDEP as an Associate Researcher and became a tutor at UPM and an invited lecturer at UiTM Sabah.

Dr Geoffrey is also active in providing consultancy in the fields of motivation, business management, agribusiness, community entrepreneurship development, and tourism with agencies such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) Malaysia, the Federal Agricultural Marketing Agency (FAMA), the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN ), Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB), Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTAH) and Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTOUR).

Among the contributions to Malaysia is the "Malaysian Agri-Fresh Food Consumption Study (2022-2023)" worth RM2.89 million which looks at consumer behaviour as well as the projected consumption of fresh agro-food in Malaysia. His future work interests are in local entrepreneurship development, digital business provision, and community marketing.
